Health Care activities in the District of Bankura are mostly delivered through decentralized health administration, awareness building on Public Health & Family welfare and through Community participation. Efforts were made to develop promotive and preventive services along with curative facilities. High priority was given to the development of primary health care as close to the people as possible. Public health care system is divided mainly in 3 (Three) parts - Curative, Promotive and preventive & Rehabilitative. With a view to achieving the target of Health for all by 2000 A.D." this district has intensified the program activities like Malaria Eradication, Leprosy eradication, TB control, Control of Blindness. Special emphasis has been given on covering both the Rural & Urban poor with curative measures through institutional health service and expansion of preventive measures. Health facilities are available both in curative and preventive aspects. At present it has the following numbers of District Hospital, Medical College Hospital, Sub-Divisional Hospital, Rural Hospitals, BPHC, PHC, Panchayat run PHC and Sub-Centres. The Secondary label Hospitals, i.e., DH,SDH and RH has been included under HSDP-II for up-gradation and better facilities. Another Sub-Divisional hospital at Khatra is under construction. There are 13 dental units in the district. Efforts are also taken to improve the quality of Family Planning and Immunization to Mothers and Children. In keeping with the new strategy of family Welfare Programs throughout the district, the program has been implemented as part of the reproductive & Child Health Care Program.
